Music Therapy
Connection & Growth through Music
Music therapy is an evidence-based practice wherein a Board-Certified Music Therapist & participants work collaboratively towards therapeutic goals, which may include emotional, cognitive, communicative, physical, and/or social wellbeing.
Music Matters.
Music therapy participants work towards their goals through clinical music experiences tailored to their strengths and preferences. While sessions may look like (and are!) a lot of fun, participants are working hard to meet these goals through active music-making, movement, discussion, and developing skills and coping strategies.
Within NW Works’ Music Therapy program, individuals have two goals:
-
To improve functional fine motor skills needed for job and life independence
-
To expand expressive communication, including conversational, social, self advocacy, and job interview skills
NW Works partners with Attune Music Therapy, a local private practice, where Board Certified Music Therapists Lydia Bullen and Allison Terrell facilitate weekly sessions onsite, documenting individual and group progress to ensure therapeutic outcomes.
